The QRPer Board: Your QRP Community Hub

In 2022, we created The QRPer Board, a discussion forum hosted at QRPer.net, where QRPers can ask questions, share insights, and explore amateur radio topics in depth.

Why use the QRPer Board?

The discussion board is the quickest way to get answers to your questions—much faster than sending an email to K4SWL–!

Our growing community of active QRPers and field operators provides a wealth of knowledge and guidance.

It’s free to join The QRPer Board, and all discussions are moderated to keep trolls out and our radio family in! While a free membership is required to post, you can browse and search all topics without one.

How to join for free

Due to ongoing spam attacks, we manually verify new accounts before activation. Here’s how to sign up:

1. Register your username

First, register a username on QRPer.net by clicking here.

2. Email the Admin

Send an email to [email protected] with:

  • Your UserID
  • Your email address
  • Your callsign (or “SWL” if unlicensed)

Once verified, you’ll receive a confirmation email. Note that our (amazing) admin is a volunteer and an active ham, so account activation may take up to a few days.

Explore and search QRPer.net!

The QRPer Board covers a wide variety of topics. Before posting a question, use the search bar at the top of any page to check if your question has already been answered.

For advanced searches, click the gear icon next to the search bar.

Pro Tip: You can also search QRPer.net directly from search engines like Google or DuckDuckGo by including site:qrper.net in your query.

Important Update: How to Join the QRPer.net Community

Dear QRPer.net Members,

As many of you have likely noticed, our QRPer.net Discussion Board has recently been targeted by an influx of SPAM users and comments. In response, our superhero administrator, Brian (K3ES), has been diligently working to sort and flag the SPAM comments and users from the genuine contributors.

To address this issue, we are implementing changes to our user registration process.

Moving forward, new user registrations will undergo manual approval to ensure the authenticity of each member. While this adjustment may require a bit more effort, it is essential for protecting the quality of our community.

Here’s what you need to do to join QRPer.net:

  1. Go to https://qrper.net/ and click on the register button, then Follow the prompts to create a username and submit your registration to our admin.
  2. After submitting the registration, send an email to our admin team at [email protected] with the following information:
    • Your full name and callsign (or indicate “SWL” if you’re a listener)
    • The username you chose for the discussion board (exactly as you submitted it)
    • The email address you used in your registration

Once we receive your email, we will process your request promptly and get you set up to participate in our discussions.

A break from email and reminder about the amazing QRPer.net discussion board

Dear Readers,

This week, I’m heading to the Dayton Hamvention––and fitting in a POTA rove, as well. (Woo hoo!) In the following two weeks I’ll be doing quite a lot of traveling.

QRPer.com will be updated regularly, but I won’t have a lot of time to answer questions via email.  I’ll mainly check email for news tips and guest posts.  Any replies I send will likely be quite short.

Since I typically receive around 40 emails per day just from readers, I suspect I’ll have an insane back log over the next few weeks!

Because I tend to want to answer everyone’s email–indeed, I do my best to answer any emails that aren’t accidentally eaten by my SPAM filters–I acknowledge this will be a struggle.

While it’s a privilege that folks want to reach out to me for advice, questions, and the like––the truth is, I’m reaching a point where there simply isn’t enough free time in the day even when I’m home, let alone when I’m traveling. I’m not entirely sure what I’ll do moving forward, but something will have to change soon.

I don’t want to reach a point where I have to choose between creating content…or responding to emails.  So if I just can’t get to yours, thanks for understanding.

But what if you still need some advice?  What can you do?

The QRPer Board: A new discussion board for QRPer.com

Friends, I’d like to share some good news with you!

The short version:

I’ve created a QRPer discussion board that anyone can join, free of charge, at QRPer.net.

My hope is that this will be a spot for community members to get quick answers to questions and connect with other like-minded operators.

Everyone is welcome and this board is already populated with a number of moderators who will make sure that all questions–no matter how simple–are welcome. Trolls and rude people will be weeded out.

The long version:

In the past, I’ve mentioned in posts that email from readers and subscribers (of both QRPer.com and the SWLing Post) has increased to a point that I can no longer keep up with them. It became very evident when I went camping in West Virginia last month and came back home to find no less than 60 messages in my inbox. These 60 messages were all ones needing some sort of reply or acknowledgement–they didn’t include notifications and SPAM.

I take pride in replying to each and every message I receive, but sadly I can no longer keep up with the volume. Sadly, I don’t have enough time especially with my busy family life.

In fact, I realized recently that replying to emails is actually taking a large bite out of the time I have to do content creation. I can’t let that happen, because that could quickly lead to burn-out. Both of my sites are pure labors of love and I enjoy them immensely.
