New Antenna and Leg Strap from KM4CFT

Many thanks to Jonathan (KM4CFT) who shares the following note:

We are pleased to announce the release of some new products: a 100 watt version of the popular KM4CFT End Fed Kit as well as a Leg Strap, which is perfect for those who have the KM4CFT paddles, Bamakey TP-III or ModernMorse Paddles (or any small magnetic paddle).

  1. Is there a recommended type of wire to be used with these kits? I saw no mention in the manual about gauge, size, insulation type, visibility for POTA, etc.

    1. Hi David,
I prefer to use 26 gauge polystealth wire with my antennas, but there isn’t a firm requirement on these. You can get away with much thinner wire even when running 100 watts on an antenna.
What I don’t recommend is the silicone wire since it likes to stretch which can be annoying but it would still work.

      1. Thanks Jonathan, goes double for the 5W version I bought a year ago & never built it yet. Its good to have a QRP & a QRO to go bag. David – KU9L

  2. Thanks for the recommendation on the HamGadgets leg strap! After purchasing magnets for my KH1 paddle I kind of got on a magnet kick and ordered some more for one of my CWMorse Pocket Paddles. (K&J Magnetics part no. D43-N52) I didn’t exactly have an end use in mind for the “magnetized” paddles, but what the heck, magnets are fun. I started experimenting with a couple of small steel plates that I have salvaged from old, out of commission equipment and found that the N52 magnets are strong enough to secure the paddles to my pants or jacket if I slip a steel plate in a pocket! I’ve been contemplating coming up with some sort of leg strap gizmo, but no success yet. Well, the HamGadgets strap should fill the bill nicely.
I did write to them and ask for dimensions (reported to me as 2.5 x 2.5 inches) so my CWMorse paddles should just fit.
