My buddy, Jonathan (KM4CFT), is close to releasing a new CW Field Transceiver kit he designed for POTA, SOTA, and pretty much any other field radio activity.
Today, he shared the following photo, which is a bit of a teaser:
Those of you who attended Four Days in May this year may have already gotten a proper sneak peek and even operated a prototype of this radio.
Jonathan tells me that he’ll be releasing details in the near future and you’ll soon be able to order the kits via Radio Dan’s eBay store [eBay partnership link] or via his website.
Of course, I’ll also post details here on QRPer.com when the new radio kit is live and ready to order! Stay tuned!
The CFT-1 made an appearance in a now deleted YouTube video by Evan (K2EJT). Unfortunately I didn’t watch much of the video. One of the features is that the radio can be operated while in the menu system. Evan was able to be in the CW speed settings while operating. Evan also mentioned that a bug in the keyer firmware was recently resolved.
I have been using one of his prototypes and it’s a real winner. I love it. Everything about it is well thought out. You’re gonna want one!

These teases are interesting but by the time they are released its sometimes forgotten about.
Why cant one release details and pricing information as well as circuit block diagrams while we wait for the release?
Soon?

I will soon announce a end fed balun the size of a peanut with kevlar based #28 wire for a 1 oz POTA antenna that has +3.2 dBi gain on 40m , 20m and 17m and fits in a 35 mm film canister and has a SMA jack on it. It will be packaged with a Pixie CW transceiver for wonderful POTA fun on 40m, The optional and mandatory BCI filter is 5 x the size of the balun in a luxurious special edition Hammond box. First 73 purchasers will get a sticker kit and I will include random POTA patches as easter eggs. The STEM release includes a potato battery. The next release will be the SOTA-superlight edition which includes a 25 foot telescopic hiking staff that acts as the primary antenna with a early buyer SuperDry travel pouch. Sorry I have no details to release or images so please standby but it will integrate with the best POTA logger on the planet (hint its not HamRS) through a USB C port. It will run off VAPE pen batteries so we can recycle smokers tools and keep the planet green. I promise a low impact, green, recyclable and EMP hardened balun that comes with a 2000 mile DX guarantee. Details will be released soon and as promised its a game changer……..FOMO? get on the priority list to avoid disappointment. I will ensure that overseas markets will have selling agents in place and a team of balun builders in your call sign district for those that are afraid to work with #30 magnet wire in winding the toroid. NO SMD components .
Please fill out the survey as I have a 2 Tube 40m/20m Americano 5 watter with a companion HV supply powered by solar for a real ham radio alla 1950s Novice style experience.
PLEASE RELEASE THE DETAILS IMMEDIATLEY SO WE CAN ALL SLEEP TONIGHT AND NOT SUFFER ANY NEW RADIO ANXIETY.
What was that X60 Icom boards in a display case all about? Forgotten
The radio will likely be released in 1-2 weeks.
Sooner please, Jonathan! 😉
Sooner please, Jonathan! 😉
I’m guessing it’s next contender to the KH-1, and it actually has a NICE sidetone.
John where is the link for all these upcoming goodies? I’d be amazed at 2K mile DX from my QTH in CO. 😉 That’s quite a guarantee. 🙂

PS
I could not say more about KM4CFT’s as it’s his Thunder to release. But my coments are not exagerated and I have no connection with Jonathan other than obtaining a prototype and couldn’t be more pleased.
Pete, my products will be sold through RadioDan-w7rf on eBay and on HamGadgets.com.
If you look up my callsign on eBay you will find all of my products.
And for the whole teaser thing, understand that I don’t want people to think it’s the greatest thing ever only to be disappointed. It was very much a “don’t be Xiegu” and “be like Elecraft” from a firmware standpoint. You really want people to have a good experience on day 1! I pretty much wanted to stay quiet on everything except for my development on discord until we were a step away from launch.
I got the circuit boards yesterday and put together one of them and have confirmed they are working. Basically pending any emergencies the radio will officially be released on August 12th.
You may want to talk to Hans G0UPL about how he feels in regards to releasing information about upcoming products early… Nobody who has watched the QSX saga will ever release information about a product that is not ready to ship.
Regarding the radio in the case, I guess you will have to wait a few more weeks as well. I think they will announce it in Tokyo.

Karl what radio are you talking about?
I seriously doubt Jonathan KM4CFT will go to Tokyo to announce it. But only he knows that for sure.

That was in response to John’s question about the X60.
Very interested!
